  3. KEY DATES AND DEADLINES 2013/14

Progression Criteria All students need to pass 100 credits (by September) To include all PFP modules on your programme Physics: LAB 1 LAB 2 Astro: LAB 1 LAB 2 Stars & Galaxies Nano: LAB 1 LAB 2 Physics of Materials Theor: LAB 1 LAB 2 Pass for Progression Modules Students who fail a PFP module even after August resit, must change programme, or take a year out and resit as an external student. Students who only pass 80 credits (but pass all PFP modules) can progress on an ORDINARY degree (and can redeem HONOURS if they make up the credits in subsequent years).

  5. Resits for ‘coursework-only’ modules • Apply (and Pay) on-line as for a normal resit • Details of the resit coursework will be posted on the VLE on 7th July (results day) Modules this Applies to: • Laboratory • Computing

  6. Do Not Book a Holiday during the Re-Sit Period! Re-sit Period – Tuesday 12th – Friday 22nd August

It is important to know…. • Year 2 will get a lot HARDER…. • Each module will have different recommended text-it will be your responsibility to acquire these. • The level of Maths in Physics lectures will increase • You will come across new material (content never seen before) and it will be delivered fast.

  9. BSc and MPhysPhysics Level 2 2014-15 You can choose electives from outside the School of Physics and Astronomy

  10. BSc and MPhysPhysics with Astrophysics Level 2 2014-15 You will have the opportunity of studying an elective in your 3rd Year

  11. BSc and MPhysPhysics with Nanotechnology Level 2 2014-15 You can choose electives from outside the School of Physics and Astronomy

  12. BSc and MPhysTheoretical Physics Level 2 2014-15 You can choose electives from outside the School of Physics and Astronomy

  13. Astrophysics PHYSICS OPTIONS PHYS2015 High Energy Astrophysics (10 Credits Semester 2) PHYS2150 Stellar Structure and Evolution (10 Credits Semester 1) Nanotechnology PHYS2330 Nanophysics and Nanotechnology (10 Credits Semester 1)

Year Abroad Apply in 2nd Year Go Abroad in your 3rd Year You pay a reduced tuition fee while you are away (£1350 for 14/15 Available Schemes European (year) Destinations: Helsinki, Berlin, Munich, Marseille, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Aarhus… BSc: You still receive a Student Loan! Can expect to earn an annual Salary of £15,000 - £25,000 Open to Students of all academic abilities Placement take place between Years 2 & 3 Year In Industry Must be in Paid employment for 9 – 15 months You are responsible for finding your own placement, but there is help available To Find Out More: Contact Dr Dougan or Jessica Severn in the UG Office

  19. How does PAL work? How Does Pal Work? Two trained Mentors lead a group of 15 – 20 first year students Sessions should be informal and relaxed; a safe place for students to ask about things they don’t understand Sessions based on lecture notes/ homework / general uni life Compulsory for Year 1 Students

  20. What are the benefits of being a PAL Mentor? Time Management You will develop a wide range of skills such as: Communication Teamwork You will also gain a deeper understanding of Physics yourself Plus many more skills
