COMMUNITY ADVISORY PANELS Is there a need for a depression group? • Yes, abused women need support “cause you cry to yourself in your room” • Lack people to talk to/support • Lack connections with family/friends How might it be helpful? What might it help with? • Group would allow women to talk to others who have had similar experiences • Group would help women figure out why abuse happens What barriers would affect your ability to attend the group? • Lack of transportation or affordable childcare • Fears of abusers • Fears of lack of confidentiality What would make it difficult for women to attend besides transportation/childcare? • Fear of revealing and expressing feelings • Lack of trust or discomfort with others • Negative feelings about psychotherapy • Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, e.g., hypervigilance

Project D•A•W•N • Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Women with Histories of Intimate partner Violence Weekly 8-sessions, 90-minute group • Reduce depressive symptoms & social isolation • Improve relationships with supportive family and friends • Problem areas explored in group: • Current interpersonal conflictswith family members and friends • Goals: Identify conflict; Renegotiate relationship; End relationship • Long-standing problematic interpersonal patterns • Goals: Identify destructive ways of reacting to relationship issues; Reduce fears of rejection • Primary Interpersonal roles across relationships • Goals: Cost/benefit analyses of primary interpersonal role
