  2. Introduction • Reads as a simple • Question: Do we need to pay taxes? • At this point in Matthew’s Gospel • Entry into Jerusalem • Religious leaders upset • Political leaders upset • Passover was coming • The “yearly revolt” • They wanted to stop the revolt believing that Jesus would start it

  3. Money • Roman money • Temple money

  4. Taxes • Attitude about taxes • Poll/head tax on animals • Judeans hated poll-tax on them

  5. Another view for us today • We have to do things required of the state/country we live in • Where is your allegiance? • Chick fil a example • Blue laws • Forced an allegiance • When removed look what happened • What is your allegiance? • How do you demonstrate your allegiance to Jesus?
