  1. On the Road Luke 24:36-48

  2. Introduction • Need to start with the Emmaus walk • “Two of them” on the road • They meet Jesus but do not know it is him until they break bread • “The Two” return to Jerusalem • With the 11 disciples Jesus appears

  3. Elements of the story • The 11 disciples and followers might have been in a locked room • That would explain that they were startled when Jesus appeared • There was doubt about who He was • He showed them the nail marks • He ate some fish and they believed

  4. Emphasis on prophecy • Jesus tells them that He came to fulfill the Law, Prophets, and Psalms • Jesus adds a messianic prophecy that was not on their radar – “Suffering Servant” Isaiah 53 • Jesus interprets the last part of Isaiah 53 to be the cosmic salvation

  5. For us today • Emphasis of the Easter story • Jesus rose form the grave and ascended into Heaven • Forgiveness is offered to all who believe • Foundation of the Christian faith (death and resurrection) • Question that comes up today is: HOW? • Answer: Some things you just have to have faith in (you just have to believe)
