  3. Echo • Echo of King David • David was a young boy. Was a shepherd. 34 But David said to Saul, "Your servant was tending his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock,35 I went out after him and attacked him, and rescued it from his mouth; and when he rose up against me, I seized him by his beard and struck him and killed him. (1 Sam. 17:34-35 NAU)

  4. Echo continued • David as King – protector of the people • Jesus came from humble roots like David • Jesus replaces David as the King of Israel

  5. Culture • 2 types of shepherd • Hired hands – run at the first sign of trouble • Owner of the flock – would die to protect the sheep • “Good shepherd” is the owner of the flock

Culture continued • “Other sheep” is anyone who does not know about God’s love through the Messiah 1 But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. 2 The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them. (Isa. 9:1-2 NAU)
