As a society, we can no longer afford to make poor health choices such as being physically inactive and eating an unhealthy diet; these choices have led to a tremendous obesity epidemic.

Children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day to promote good health. Even thirty to sixty minutes of activity broken into smaller segments of 10 or 15 minutes throughout the day has significant health benefits.

What is FitFactor?
  • One element of the Air Force Youth Fitness and Health Initiative
    • Promote and sustain youth fitness programming
      • 84 Air Force bases world-wide
      • Serve 70,000 youth – ages 5-18 years
  • Program Goals – ages 9-18 years
    • Increase physical fitness activity
    • Increase awareness of proper nutrition
    • Increase Youth Center membership

How was FitFactor introduced to AF staff?
  • September 05 training at Kirtland Air Force Base
    • 250 youth program staff
    • Three-day training included:
      • FitFactor implementation
      • Educational sessions
        • Physical activity, health and nutrition
        • Fitness, programming
      • Fun, outdoor fitness event with competitions
      • Vendor exhibits
      • Keynote address - Dr. Dot Richardson,

One of three 4-H clubs required on each AF base is in the area of Health, Fitness and Nutrition – a natural fit with FitFactor

Other 4-H opportunities:

  • Cooking Clubs & Nutrition classes
  • Bicycling, Hiking, Skateboarding Clubs, etc
  • Curriculum and resources
  • Staff training and research
  • Points earned for participating in 4-H camps, activities, etc

  • 5,200 youth enrolled a/o 30 Nov 05
    • 1,100 youth achieved the Energy level (1st)
    • 350 youth achieved the Strength level (2nd)
