  2. Purpose of survey: To better understand the mindset and perceptions of absentee voters. • Methodology: On-line or Return Mail Survey

Sample Size required for statistical validity: • Population Size: 6,000 Absentee voters in May 2011 • Target Confidence Level: 95% Target Error Level: 4% • Estimated Needed Number of Mailings: 2, 730 • Estimated Rate of Return 20% • Estimated Number of Respondents: 546 respondents • Actual Number of Respondents: 779 • BBH response Rate: 28.5% • BBH Error level at 95% : 3.3% • BBH Response Rate better than average

  4. Who are our absentee voters? • 60% Female 40% Male • 65.3%: 51 years of age or over • 31.2% 4-Year College Degree • 22.5% Master’s Degree • 27.7% never had a child attend BBH schools • 64.3% currently or previously had a child attend BBHCSD

  5. Common Themes: • Additional and more simplistic information about finances (charts, graphs, etc.) • List of specific reductions in staff (FTEs), services and programs • Explain compensation package • Define work load and responsibilities of teachers and administrators • Funding sources: local revenue, state revenue, grants, donations/gifts and levy committee

  6. Current Sources of Information: • Community Magazines and Newspapers 69.2% • The School Reporter, district’s newsletter 68.8% • Word of Mouth 43.4% • BBHCSD Website 32.6%

  7. Comparison to 2007 & 2010 Data • District’s Reputation of Excellence is Important • Recognition of relationship between schools’ reputation and property values • Interest/concern about how money is spent • Sources of information similar (2010) • Belief that students are prepared for future

Respondents’ Unanswered Questions • Who pays for what: local taxes, state funding, grants, private donations (PSO, Boosters, etc.) • High school busing status and rationale • Comparison of FTE’s prior to reductions vs. now • Number and area of administrative responsibilities • List of classes, programs and services cut

Respondents’ Unanswered Questions • Compensation for teachers and administrators; Step grid for teachers • Description of teacher work completed outside of school day • Operation and financial support of levy campaigns • Published untrue or misleading statements permitted to go unanswered • Strategic direction of district

  10. Action Required Based on the Superintendent’s Communications Work Plan and the recommendations of the Communications Advisory Committee: • Increase avenues of communication, i.e. Facebook and Twitter • Increase personal contacts, i.e. Monthly Superintendent Coffees
