A breakthrough model of professional learningA way for all teachers to “sample” National Board CertificationA proven, highly effective experience to develop teaching practice. A catalyst for fostering meaningful discussion about students and their learning by aligning teaching practice to professional standards.

Take One! leads to … Teachers who are engaged in thoughtful planning, implementation and reflection on teaching practice.Student learning linked to effective instructional practices.A common professional language for discussing teaching practices across content and grade levels. Differentiated leadership opportunities for teachers. Strengthened parent and community connections.

  4. Info you need… • Cost = $395 • Complete one pre-selected video portfolio entry of the NB process • Take One! scores from 2013-2014 will not be transferable to full National Board Certification

  5. Take One! Eligibility Criteria • Available to all teachers, including induction and pre-service teachers; principals; administrators; professors and those who provide support for National Board Certification candidates. • Take One! requires that educators have access to a pre-K-12 classroomto complete the portfolio entry.

  6. Funding for Take One! • A number of scholarships are available but limited. • Scholarships are provided on a first come, first served basis. • Interested individuals should submit their Take One! application as soon as possible and submit the scholarship application right away. • The link to the scholarship application can be accessed from the individual’s Fees & Payments page within their My Profile account.

  7. Take One!Certification Areas • 25 Areas of Certification • Area suitable for almost every teacher • Check out www.NBPTS.org website to determine which one best suits you!

  8. The Standards • The standards are the backboneof the process! • Become familiar with them BEFORE you begin writing • You MUST consider the standards in your description, analysis, and reflection

  9. Instructional Portfolio Entries • Writing: • Description • Analysis • Reflection • Planning & Collaboration • Videotaped Segment

  10. CMS Support Services • Small-group meetings facilitated by National Board Certified Teachers • Online support site via Moodle • Professional Readers • At least two Instructional Institutes (held during school hours in Winter and Spring)

  12. Changes for 2014-2015 • National Board has announced changes in the initial certification process effective with the 2014-2015 cycle. • Take One! scores from 2013-2014 will not be transferable to full National Board Candidacy. • Visit the National Board website for more information.
