  2. Why bother? We’ve done this a hundred times before!

  3. Because vision and mission statements: • Communicatespecificaspirations • Illuminate and clarify a common purpose • State intentions

  4. Vision will convey… the purpose of your pathway and what can be gained by participating.

  5. Vision may forge a common bond… when personal goals and values are reflected in a team’s purpose.

  6. In multiple pathways… vision and mission should reflect the belief that all students can graduate prepared for college andcareer.

  7. Clarity and Common Ground VISION • MISSION GOALS AND OUTCOMES

  8. Pathway vision…. describes what will happen for students as a result of successful participation.

  9. Vision statements are: • Inspiring • Easily understood • What will transpire if your program is successful • Evidence of what you value (see sample)

  10. Key Words and Phrases • Could be generated by stakeholders such as… • make informed career decisions • articulated postsecondary transitions

  11. Team discussion • Use worksheet provided to: • address the questions about your vision statement in the first column.

  12. Mission is the quest… to realize the vision in ways that might be unique to your pathway.

  13. Mission statements: • Clarify what you plan to do • Convey what might be experienced • Highlight what is different (see sample)

  15. Student Outcomes further clarify your vision… by identifying what all completers will know and be able to do that is specific to your pathway. (see samples)

  16. Student Outcomes…. focus on those skills and abilities most critical to success within your careertheme. (see samples)

  17. Pathway goals address….. the structures and practices that allow all students access to the postsecondary options that match their career goals.
