  1. To remove part of a track Manipulating sound using Audacity Highlight the area of track you wish to remove. Go to ‘Edit’ and then ‘Cut’.

  2. Manipulating sound using Audacity Change the speed or tempo of a track Highlight the required track. Go to ‘Effect’ and select ‘Change Speed’ or ‘Change Tempo’. Click and drag the slider to the appropriate position. Use the ‘Preview’ tool to listen to a preview of the result. Click ‘OK’ or change as required.

  3. Manipulating sound using Audacity Add a second track • Go to ‘Project’, select ‘Import Audio’ • Find, select and ‘Open’ the required file

  4. Manipulating sound using Audacity Move a selected track to the required position on the timeline Select the ‘Time Shift Tool’ Position the cursor over the track you wish to move. Click and drag and the track can be repositioned.

  5. Manipulating sound using Audacity Use the ‘Solo’ feature to play one track at a time To play one track at a time select ‘Solo’ on the required track. This will mute all other tracks. Use ‘Mute’ if you wish to silence one track.

  6. Manipulating sound using Audacity Copy and paste tracks or a section of track Highlight the relevant section of track. Select ‘Edit’ and then ‘Copy’.

  7. Manipulating sound using Audacity Ensure that no tracks are selected. Go to ‘Edit’, ‘Paste’ and the copied selection will be pasted as a new track.
