  3. Games have been added through the years. Women were not allowed to compete in the games in the beginning. This year, women were still not allowed to compete in ski jumping. The Winter and Summer Olympics split up in 1992 and have been split up ever since. Now The Winter Olympics are held one year and 2 years later it is time for the Summer Olympics.   6. There are threeOlympic mascots: Quatchi, Miga and Sumi. Mukmuk is our “electronic” mascot. My favourite mascot is Miga because she loves to go on adventures and go exploring. She loves to make new friends and she is very friendly. Her fav trick is the 270 half pike into the water. Her fav food is fish. I am most like Sumi because one of my favourite colours is fern green. We both love the inner strength of the paralympians and how much they try to win and practice. Sumi loves to go alpine skiing up on the mountain. OLYMPIC MASCOTS

  7. Mukmuk Have you ever created a mascot in cyberspace? Well 2010 Olympics did! They created a marmot. His name is Mukmuk. He is a sidekick of the Winter Olympic Games. Mukmuk supports and cheers his family and friends as they compete in the Olympics. He LOVES to EAT. His favourite foods are flowers, ferns and berries. He likes to sunbathe and hibernate. Marmots, like Mukmuk, are extremely rare. He lives on Vancouver Island in sub-alpine meadows.

OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY • The Olympic torch is a sign of peace, good will and friendship. • The Olympic torch has traveled • through many countries since 1936. • Now it is in Canada. • The relay started in Victoria B.C. • The 2010 relay is the longest domestic relay in history. • The Torch Relay will end in Vancouver on February 12, 2010.

  9. The Inuit Inukshuk is a stone marker that has been used to guide people as they travel in the Arctic. It inspired the artist who designed the 2010 Olympic Logo. The Olympic Inukshuk is a symbol of leadership, cooperation, friendship and human spirit. The Inukshuk mascot is named Ilanaaq which means ‘friend’ in the native Inuit Inuktitut language. The logo features five individual parts. The blue and green colors represents the Canadian west coast islands, forests and mountain ranges. The red represents the Canadian maple leaf while the gold is for the brilliant sunrise that lights up the downtown Vancouver skyline and the surrounding snow capped mountain peaks. The Inukshuk also has a mouth which brings a happy and welcoming human quality to the Olympic Games. 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Logo
