Lesson Plan • Class Description: Appropriate for a small group of first grade students. • The students have demonstrated understanding of word families. • The students demonstrate the ability to differentiate same and different final ending sounds. • Objective: The student will identify and match rhyming words from a familiar text.

  3. Materials • Big book version of Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown. • Chart paper/marker • Power point presentation

  4. Activity • Introduce book, Goodnight Moon, to the students. Take time to look at each page and have the students talk about what they see on each page. • Present the story to the class through sign language and oral reading. Point out the picture of the objects mentioned throughout the story.

  5. Re-Read the story. Write down the sets of rhyming words on chart paper. • Have the students read the groups of rhyming words on the chart and again on the list provided. • Review the rhyming words with the pictures provided in the presentation. • Students can match rhyming words on the presentation
