  3. Requirements Your paper should • Be typed and 2-3 pages long • Establish a clear point about WEALTH made by both texts • Support your point using details and literary techniques from The Great Gatsby and “Richard Cory”

  4. DUE DATE Your paper will be due: Monday April 1

  5. The Poem • Open your textbooks to p607 • Read the poem “Richard Cory” by Edwin Arlington Robinson • Write down a point it makes about wealth that is also present in The Great Gatsby • No CLICHES! Money cannot buy happiness is not acceptable.

  6. Outline • INTRO • Identify thesis (what point about wealth do the two texts make) • Identify the two texts you will discuss. Titles authors and genres

  7. Outline II and III. Body Paragraphs • Topic sentence that identifies text and point about wealth. • Ex. The Great Gatsby makes the point that money cannot buy happiness. • Supporting details • Specific details—Gatsby gets money but not Daisy • Literary techniques—conflict btw D and G • Explanation of details • Ex. The conflict between Daisy and Gatsby shows how money cannot buy happiness.

  8. Outline IV. Conclusion • Summarize main points • Reflect on the importance of the point you have made.
