  2. As a professional and independent attorney with 20-year track record, Michael LeRoy knows making good first impression with prospective clients. Demonstrating that you have all of the tools required to undertake the task is important, so consider these points before attending that first meeting.

  3. Do Your Research You should understand everything that it is possible to understand about a client before any formal meeting. Research the company that they are involved in and what they have achieved on both a personal and professional level. This does not mean that you should speak over them or assume that you know what they require. However, it does show that you are willing to learn and use that knowledge to their advantage.

  4. Present Yourself Well Your attire and appearance are crucial when making a first impression. Ensure you are well-groomed and that you look professional. This is particularly important in the legal profession, as if you don’t aim to impress the client, they may think that you are unable to present properly in court.

  5. Your Attitude You must be able to put any stresses or issues to the back of your mind when first meeting a client. Greet them with a smile but do not be disingenuous. Be honest in your interactions and confident in your body language. This emits a feeling a professionalism that the potential client will pick up on.

  6. Speak Clearly Be concise and use language that the client can understand. Be sure to explain terminology that may not be common knowledge to people outside of the profession and take care not to mumble.
