  19. Page 19 Research and development: COS (OT) project Industrial research and pre-competitive project financed by MIUR to COS-OT consortium. Telespazio has been responsible for 2 research lines: 1)TELE_OR1: Innovative technologies for territorial characterization through SAR interferometry and super-resolution images production 2)TELE_OR2: Integrated technologies for remote sensed data processing applied to the estimation of hydrologic and hydraulic parameters

  20. Page 20 Research and development: COS (OT) - TELE_OR1 • Industrial research activities • Temporal combination of minimum curvature • 3D sparse unwrapping • Calibration methods • DIFSAR processing on wide areas (100 km x 100 km): Basento, Molise, Napoli, Roma, Rovigo • SAR tomography • Apodization SAR INTERFEROMETRY SUPER-RESOLUTION

  21. Page 21 Research and development: COS (OT) - TELE_OR2 • Industrial research activities • Near real time application (basin scale) • MODIS data • MSG data • ENVISAT data • VHR application (river scale) • land use • river dynamic • change detection • features extraction • high resolution ortho-photos • high resolution DEM • 3D images and animation • Pre-competitive development • - GIS hidrology prototype

  22. Page 22 Pre-operational: NOD project NOD stands for Near Operational Demonstration of the use of Satellite Systems for Fire Risk Management NOD objective is to set up a demonstration of Earth Observation application in Near Real Time modality and in an operative context NOD phisolophy is to establish a tight co-operationwith the end-users communities during all the project phases NOD geographical scope is Europe and NOD consortium groups several european providers and users developing a common Pan European interface for the users to integrate their Decision Supposrt Systems

  23. Page 23 NOD project: tasks End user: • Exploit the NOD products (as long as the user operative activity will allow it) • Provide (ground truth) validation data • Evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed products and service NOD team: • Provide fire products • Verify the correct behavior of the system and possibly apply improvements • Analyse ground truth data and compare to fire products • Collect and analyse user feedbacks

  30. Page 30 NOD project: demo architecture NOD system main modules are: • Acquisition sub-systems • Processing subsystems • Archive and server • Web DSS for visualization

  31. Page 31 NOD demo architecture: Web DSS for visualization Main Web DSS functions: • Mapping: allows to publish vector/raster products/includes classical GIS functions: Zoom In, Zoom Out, Re-centre, Query Object and Query Region • Legend : represents the status (visible/not visible) of the layers shown in the map window • Display Fire attributes and Details • Go-to-location • Go-to-time • Animation

  32. Page 32 NOD demo architecture: validation interface One of the objective of the Italian demonstration was to provide the users with a tool to populate in real time modality the database with the ground truth information ( daily paper bulletin on occurred fires) User could insert the information about COAU/ALINA alert eventually choosing the coordinate projection of the available location.

  33. Page 33 NOD demo architecture: report generation The report interface has been designed to perform two basic operations: • to have a daily report of the fire alerts: by representing the static daily situation with a list of the alerts (Hot Spot, COAU, ALINA) • to have a daily view of fire alerts that can be used to validate Hot spots against COAU/ALINA alerts: by allowing the user to validate (with a cross-link) the Hot Spot in this interface

  34. Page 34 NOD demo evaluation plan

  35. Page 35 NOD demonstration: where we are • The operational phase has just been concluded (20 September) • The preliminary Evaluation Plan is going to be refined, in particular: • The service evaluation is going to be performed together with the DPC operators responsible for the demo execution by means of subjective indicators of system performances and objective indicators of system performances • The products evaluation is going to take place by calculating the objective indicators of products quality
