30 “As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.’ 31 So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain. 32 Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips will come right things;7For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.8All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.9 They are all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge. Prov. 8:6-9
18 Because John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”19Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; 20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. … 22 And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” …” 26And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.
Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. 1 Tim 3:8,9
“Do not take me away with the wicked And with workers of iniquity, Who speak peace to their neighbors, But evil is in their hearts.” Ps 28:3
Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. 26If anyone among youthinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
