Our Project Goal • Our goal is to provide statistics that show the educational attainment in Eastern, Western and the Piedmont counties. • It is our goal to show if there is a correlation between educational attainment based upon race and the region. • Our group chose to compare and contrast the following: • Race based upon Blacks and Whites • Region based upon Eastern NC, Western NC and the piedmont areas • Educational attainment based upon High School and College graduates, which includes but not limited to those who have Bachelor, Masters or Doctoral degrees.

  5. Beaufort County, N.C. Population of Beaufort County Black Non-Hispanics make up 27.4% White Non-Hispanics make up 67.5% Educational Attainment

  6. Graham County, N.C. Population of Graham County Black Non-Hispanic makes up 0.4% White Non-Hispanic makes up 90.9% Educational Attainment

  7. Burke County, N.C. Population of Burke County Black Non-Hispanics make up 7% White Non-Hispanics make up 86.5% Educational Attainment

  8. Macon County, N.C. Population of Macon County Black Non-Hispanics make up 1.7% White Non-Hispanics make up 95.9% Educational Attainment

  9. Alamance County N.C. Population of Alamance County Focusing only on the % of Blacks and White Black Non-Hispanics make up 17.9% White Non-Hispanics make up 68.4% Educational Attainment

  10. Forsyth County, N.C. Population of Forsyth County Black Non-Hispanics make of 25% White Non-Hispanics make up 62.1% Educational Attainment

  11. Guilford County, N.C. Population of Guilford County Black Non-Hispanics make up 30.6% White Non-Hispanic make up 58.1% Education Attainment Guilford County 25 years and over

  12. Project Findings • Across all counties of focus, blacks are less likely than whites to have a high school diploma. • Blacks are more likely to just have a high school diplomaor equivalency. • Whites are more likely to attain bachelor degrees or higher when compared to blacks • Blacks who are able to earn a high school diploma are very successful in comparison with whites up until the point of bachelor degrees or higher, blacks hold more degrees in these areas because whites have achieved higher educational levels beyond associates degrees.
