  3. El continente americano se llama así ya que fue el cartógrafo Américo Vespucio el que descubrió que Cristóbal colon no había llegado a las indias sino a un continente nuevo. América tiene 35 países independientes y 16 dependencias, con una extensión territorial de 42.262.142 km². Significado, países y extensión geográfica.
