  2. What is Ethos? • Ethos: refers to credibility, respect or authority a person has Critical questions to ask: • Can I trust this person’s judgment? • Do I respect this person? • Is this person an expert or authority figure on the subject? Nike Commercial

  3. Ethos Example: Claim: Students should be allowed to use cell phones during school hours. List one supporting facts and/or statistics that will support the claim.

  4. What is Logos? • Logos: the logic used to support a claim. EXAMPLES - Evidence • Facts and statistics • Visual charts • Research studies Progressive Insurance Commercial

  5. Logos Example: • Claim: Students should be allowed to use cell phones during school hours. List one supporting facts and/or statistics that will support the claim.

  6. What is Pathos? • Pathos: appealing to emotions. Convincing you by how it makes you feel. EXAMPLES: • Personal experience • Anyone/anything you might care about McDonalds Commercial State Farm Commercial

  7. Pathos Example: Claim: Students should be allowed to use cell phones during school hours. List one supporting facts and/or statistics that will support the claim.
