Erasmus Mundus - objectives • Enhance the quality of highereducationthrough international cooperation • Contribute to intercultural understanding • Contribute to capacity building in partner countries • Boost students’ and staff career prospects • Increase the attractiveness of European higher education

  3. ERASMUS MUNDUS: 3 ACTIONS SCHOLARSHIPS students (undergrto post-doc.) and Staff (acad. and admin.) ACTION 1: Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Courses Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates NO CALL IN 2013 ACTION 2: Erasmus Mundus Partnerships ACTION 3: Projects to promote higher education cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world

Action 1 Joint Programmes An EM Masters Course or Joint Doctorate • is developed and delivered by a consortium of HEIs (with study in at least two HEIs) • must involve at least three European HEIs and may involve non-EU HEIs • awards full-study scholarships + scholar grants • provides a joint degree/mulitpledegrees

Action 1 Joint Programmes In 2013: • 138 Masters Courses and 43 Joint Doctorates will offer: • 1,500 + Masters scholarships, 300 doctoral fellowships, 450 scholar scholarships • Instances of participation:745 EU, 240 non-EU 2004-2012: • Scholarships for over 14,000 masters students, 2,000 scholars and 640 doctoral candidates

Action 1: Involvement of Jordan HEIs and mobility(2004-12) * Since 2010, EMMC consortia have selected scholars over the course of the academic year, rather than at the beginning, so nationalities of selected scholars will only be known when final reports are submitted.** First selection of doctoral candidates made for 2010-2011 academic year. JordanianHEIs have not partecipated in any of the consortia selected for joint master or doctorate programmes so far.

  7. Action 1 Joint Programmes Annual flat rate for consortium management • EUR 30,000 (EMMC); EUR 50,000 (EMJD) Scholarships: • EMMC scholarships for students and researchers • EMJD fellowships for doctoral candidates • Cover participation costs (fees), living costs, travel, insurance

  8. Action 1: How muchis the scholarship? Two categories of students/doctoral candidates: Category A: • Non-Europeanswho are not resident, nor have carried out their main activity for more than a total of 12 months over the last 5 years, in a European country Category B: • Anyindividual fulfilling the academic admission conditions set by the consortium and who does not fulfil Category A requirements (mainlyEuropeans)

Action 2 Partnerships • Large partnerships between universities from the EU and non-EU universities from a specific region (lots) • Scholarships of varying length (1 month to 3 years) • Bachelor, master, doctorate, post-doctorate students and Staff (training, teaching, research activities, HE management) • Mobility not linked to specific programmes (all programmes on offer in partner HEIs can be followed) • Addressing different target groups including vulnerable groups • Integration of cross-cutting issues (i.e. disadvantaged group and gender balance)

Action 3 to date • 9 promotion projects selected in 2012 • 75 promotion projects 2004-2012 • 577 instances of participation by 433 different HE organisations (221 from Europe, 212 from third countries) • 10 information projects managed by National Structures (2010-2012) • 5 Clusters of existing Erasmus Mundus projects (2010-2012) 18

Action 2 mobilitytarget Scholarshipsbeneficiaries must beLibyan or nationals of the any country concerned by the lot and specifically: • Target Group 1 registered in one of the HEIs member of the partnership (50% of the total mobility) • Target Group 2 registered/work in a HEIs not included in the partnership or have obtained a university degree by an institution of these countries • Target Group 3 in particularly vulnerable situations, for social and political reasons (e.g. refugee status or asylum seekers, indigenous population or IDPs)
