  3. TAMIN and Senior Hires • Dec. 15: Submitted final draft of TAMIN proposal • Jan. 13: Received final draft of the implementation plan from the VPR • Plan includes funding for 3 senior faculty, one each in Psyc, Biol, and VIBS • Funding for program administration and graduate stipends

  5. Senior Hires • Jan. 5: Deans approved the plan to allocate space in the ILSB • Jan. 27: Confirmation from all 3 Deans • Feb. 1: Final version of the ad approved • Ad will soon appear at SfN and Science online • Please distribute the electronic version (track)

  6. ILSB-Third Floor (labs 3E, 3F, 3G)

  7. Program Administration • Courses: 17 courses cross-listed w/NRSC prefix • thanks to Mark Zoran • Cross system enrollment will require shadow courses • Coordination requires a Grad. Advisor in both system components, as stipulated in the MOU • Curriculum Committee elected Gerry Frye to serve as the co-Chair and HSC Grad. Advisor • Curriculum Committee is fine-tuning the curriculum and developing guidelines

  8. Student Tracking • Recruits and transfer students are assigned to TAMU or TAMHSC • Upon entering the program, TAMU students will be assigned the admin. code of the relevant Grad. Advisor • Upon filing a degree plan, student will be assigned admin. code of the mentor’s dept.

  9. Routing Paperwork • Neuroscience Chair will sign as program Head • At both TAMU and TAMHSC • At TAMU, the GIC/Dean for the College of the Graduate Advisor will provide review/signatures • College oversight will move w/Grad. Advisor • Dept. specific requests (e.g., new course proposals from particular depts.) will be processed by the relevant college • Distributes load/responsibility across participating colleges

  10. Heep Fellowships • Dec. 16: President Loftin directed 9-10 Heep Fellowships to Neuroscience • Provide a 30K/yr. fellowship w/tuition waiver • For 3 years • Can award 3-4 this year • Retaining these requires matching (donor) funds • To recruit/maintain stellar students • Limited to TAMU students

  11. Annual Symposium • Scheduled for April 8th • Update from Sarah Woller • Encouraging attendance at the symposium and colloquia • Tracking to remain eligible for travel awards

Other Committee News • Concept paper approved by Regents (1/21) • Final proposal goes forward in March • EC (met on Dec. 2nd and Jan. 20th) • Encouraging attendance at the symposium and colloquia • To be required for all NRSC students • For non-NRSC students, attendance required to remain eligible for travel awards • Undergraduate Curriculum (Tassinary) • Membership (Winzer-Serhan) • Web Site (Frye & Rimer) • Chapter (Meagher)

  13. Graduate Support (Jane Welsh) • Funding request was cut, forcing us to limit our financial obligations • Need to guarantee 5 years of support • Seek to provide NRSA level stipends w/support for tuition and fees • Plan submitted w/in TAMIN called for recruiting 5 students per year (-> 25 net) • Assumed 25% of the students will enroll at HSC • HSC students will be funded by redirecting existing slots • TAMU students will be funded via combination of VPR and PI/Dept. funds • TAMIN has enough money to provide 75% in yr. 1 and 25% in yrs. 2-5 • latter assures continued dept. participation in yrs. 2-5 • A guarantee of support for funds not provided by TAMIN (esp. aft. yr. 1) must come from PI/dept. • E-mail Jane your ideas/concerns

Graduate Recruiting (Gregg Wells) • Currently reviewing applicants • Faculty should let Gregg know if they are interested in recruiting through NRSC • Faculty can direct dept. applicants to NRSC • Faculty can identify students for Heep Award • Time frame • Plans for interview (allocated $7,500)
