  1. GPS to Success Strategic Planning Day 1

  2. Outcome Statements • SLTs will conduct a thorough Data Review and Systems Review with Root Cause analysis using the Framework of Effective School Culture • SLTs will determine Essential Practices that will drive the 2019-2020 School Improvement Process

  3. Pace Car Commitments Teams need to acknowledge the conditions that are necessary to do their best work. Think about the outcome you hope to obtain at the end of Synergy. What does your team need to commit to in order to accelerate excellence during Synergy? At _(School Name)__, we commit to…...

  4. 2019-2020 Timeline

  5. SIP Terminology to know for Strategic Planning: Significantly Improved Data Neutral Data Significantly Decreased Data Rationale Essential Practices Priority Actions Street light graphic

  6. Data Categorizing Examples Significantly Decreased:Students with ten or more absences increased by 10%. Significantly Improved:The number of Level 1 ELA students significantly decreased based on the effective use of support personnel.

  7. In what direction are we going? As a district, what are our strengths? As a district, where are the opportunities to develop? So where to next?

  8. School Culture

  9. Reflection Think about the current culture at your school. What connections can you make to the video and the process of working together to develop your SIP?

  10. Similar to the FEI, the Framework of Effective School Culture (FESC) provides standards and indicators to guide our practice in an effort to continue improving the culture at our school sites. • We will be using this framework to guide our decision making, determine areas of strength and growth, and monitor progress throughout the school year.

  11. As a school team, read through each indicator and determine if the indicator is an effective and consistent school-wide practice. • If yes, highlightthe indicator • If no, place an *asterisk* next to the indicator. REACH CONSENSUS, HIGHLIGHT!

  12. Vision for Growth Use the FESC as your SLT’s Visual Guide today as you progress through the SIP. Throughout the year, continue to utilize the FESC to reevaluate your progress within School Culture.

  13. School Improvement Process: Phase IV Data Predictions Review

  14. School Culture Data Map Preview Climate Survey • Climate Survey (staff & students) • Master Climate Survey (Power Bi) School Culture • Attendance • Retentions • Suspensions/Referrals • Early Warning Indicators • Panorama (MS Only) • TC Surveys (ETO Only) School Improvement Survey (Leadership Competencies) • Engaging the Team • Commitment to Students • Developing Others • Focus on Sustainable Results

  15. Power BI Guide

  16. As you work through your data, consider the following…. • Select the data findings that if addressed, will have the greatest impact on School Culture and student success • Dig for new perspectives on data • For improved data, consider selecting data points that are newly improved and require attention in order to be sustained SIP Platform

  17. Data Input Data Findings: • Specific audience (i.e. Grade Level? Subgroup? School?) • Numerical Value for data • Include the comparison/differential • Identify years • Source (School Climate Survey, SIP Survey, Panorama, etc.) Example: According to the 2017-2018 School Climate Survey Feedback from staff, 72% of the teachers strongly agreed with the statement that they like to come to work as compared to the 2016-2017 survey where only 63% strongly agreed with the same statement, a 9% difference.

  18. School Culture Data Review Individual Analysis: • Identify what stands out. What surprises you? • Make connections to the Phase IV predictions • Use the graphic organizer to highlight key data points.

  19. School Culture Data Review SLT Analysis : • Each SLT member shares individual findings • Collaborate to identify THREE most impactfulimproved Data Findings, THREE most impactfulneutral Data Findings, and THREE most impactful decreased Data Findings. • Input final Data Findings in the graphic organizer on SIP platform • Discuss and input your rationales for your data findings

  20. Rationale WHY THESE DATA POINTS??? • Why is this data point important? • What might change if you could impact this data point?

  21. Lunch: 11:30-12:45 pm Winner’s Circle Review: 12:50-1:10 pm Ready to begin at 1:15 pm!

  22. Wrapping up Data & Rationale Please ensure ALL data findings and rationales have been input on the SIP platform That’s NINE Data Findings, and NINE Rationales

  23. Essential Practice Selection Now that we have selected our most impactful data in each data category (improved, neutral, decreased).... Let’s consider the practices that contributed to these results...

  24. Essential Practice Selection Significantly Improved/Sustained EP: What successful practice contributed MOST to this data finding? Neutral/Secondary EP: The absence/limited implementation of which practice contributed MOST to this data finding? Significantly Decreased/Primary EP: The absence/limited implementation of which practice contributed MOST to this data finding?

  25. Essential Practice Selection Get out your Post-its, EP List, AAA questions, Graphic Organizers, & your FESC For each Category, and each data point, 1. Independently: determine ONE essential practice that contributed most to the data point and jot it down on a post-it (use the questions on your AAA Cheat Sheet). 2. SLT Team: share the selections (place in the center for all to review), deliberate, and filter to ONE selection for the team. Consensus is key. NINE ROUNDS OF SELECTION!

  26. Selected Essential Practice Data Finding #1 Rationale Selected Essential Practice Data Finding #2 Rationale Selected Essential Practice Data Finding #3 Rationale

  27. FINAL Essential Practice Selections As a SLT, • review the data findings, rationales, and EPs from each category • choose the one EP for each category you would like to implement for the 2019-2020 school year

  28. At the bottom of each Graphic Organizer Category (Significantly Improved, Neutral, and Significantly Decreased), select your FINAL ESSENTIAL PRACTICES for the 2019/2020 SCHOOL YEAR! Selected Essential Practice Data Finding #1 Rationale Selected Essential Practice Data Finding #2 Rationale Selected Essential Practice Data Finding #3 Rationale FINAL Selected Essential Practice

  29. Represent your School! Create a 30 second video • Principals must speak • Highlight the School Improvement Process for your school (Essential Practices) • Market your school • Send all videos to MDCPSSynergy2019@gmail.com • Subject Line: School Name & # • Don’t wait!
