  2. The virtualisation process does not only depend on the object under examination! The user plays a central role by picking and tagging or describing those parameters he considers relevant for preservation purposes • The application must allow the user to: • understand a file • inspect its content and nested components • tag the whole file or the part of the file he needs

  3. Virtualisation Logical components

  4. The virtualisation process does not only depend on the object under examination! The user plays a central role by picking and tagging or describing those parameters he considers relevant for preservation purposes • The application must allow the user to: • understand a file • inspect its content and nested components • tag the whole file or the part of the file he needs

  5. VRT as a Virtual FileSystemBrowser Click the OpenFile button To begin the virtualization of a file on the computer.

  6. Main Functions • inspect the file as a FileSystem Inspect Button • view it using a dedicated viewer available on your machine View Button • view it using the vrt-plugin Open Button • dump the binary content of the file Dump Button • Tag with a label the object Tag Button (Tag Panel)‏

  7. Inspect button lets you to descend into the object and to explore it as a <<virtual FileSystem>> Inspect
