S V Reading the Course Selection Guide 700 Art Foundations I X (Grades 9-12) Credits: 1.0 PPC 6 LAB FEE $5.00 Prerequisites: None In this beginning course students learn to recognize the elements and principles of design and use them in a variety of art media and techniques. Students are provided with opportunities to work in the studio areas of drawing, painting, collage, book arts, sculpture, and printmaking. The course includes the four problem-solving areas of art: art criticism, aesthetics, art history, and art production. There is a $5.00 lab fee for this class

  11. S Accelerated (X) V • Describes those courses that make up the major core of the curricula • Designed to: • Increase knowledge of the basic subject areas • Prepare for continuing education after high school

  12. Honors (H) • For high-achieving students who excel academically • Demonstrate an ability to express themselves effectively via various mediums • High expectations of performance and achievement

  13. Advanced Placement (AP) • No Freshmen classes • Intended for academically talented students • Abilities, interests, and demonstrated levels of performance are considered • They will do difficult, college-level work in high school (summer work is involved) • May earn college credit at some colleges • AP Tests administered by ETS and are taken in May 2012 (Fee for the exam)

  16. S Class Decile V • At Sun Valley High School (SVHS), class decile is derived from a student's grade point average (GPA) which is calculated using a weighted system. • Students are grouped according to deciles (such as 1st deciles being the top ranking 10% of the class).

S NCAA Clearinghouse V • Determines whether student athletes are eligible to participate in college athletics. • If a student athlete wishes to participate in college athletics he/she must meet the core course requirements set by the NCAA Clearinghouse • For a list of approved core courses visit the NCAA Clearinghouse website: • https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/common/
