Mobility Requirements

  • Provide access to learning

  • Flexibility regarding time

    • Timing

    • Duration

  • Support for unforeseen offline periods

  • Connected to the VLE


Technology

  • Hybrid HTML5 app

    • Support for iOS and Android (reaching > 80% of the target audience)

  • OAuth protocol

    • Secure and persistent VLE connection

  • Learning material is stored on the mobile devices

    • Users can access the the material when they want without bothering about their connectivity

    • Transparent data exchange protocols

  • All analytics are done on the mobile device

    • Users do not need to be online to get feedback on their performance


Interoperability

  • IMS QTI Item Pool functionality (test-less IMS QTI)

  • Data exchange between VLEs through valid SCORM packages

  • Learner activity tracking

  • No additional authoring environment needed

  • Most VLEs already implement this feature


Interoperability Challenges

  • Most VLEs are not ready for connecting with external tools.

  • SCORM does not explicitly require IMS QTI support.

  • Some SCORM editors implement tests based on IMS Simple Sequencing


Content

  • Content from courses on the VLE used

    • Direct use of pre-existing QTI item pools

  • Authoring within the VLE

    • No additional tool training for content authors

  • The Content is automatically adapted on the mobile device.


Content Challenges

  • Content works differently on the Web than on mobiles

    • This is not related to presentation to content!

  • Creating test items that are beneficial for learning

  • Providing feedback that supports understanding
