  1. Distinction Where Did Name “Konica” Come From? • In 1873, Konishiya Rokubē and Rokusaburo Sugiura started a film and camera business in Tokyo, Japan. They combined their first names to name company Konishiroku Inc. • Began making copiers in 1960s, and introduced plain paper copier Ubix 480 in 1973. • Konishiroku decides to have Royal Typewriter Company relabel the product starting in 1979 with award-winning Royfax 115 - In 1984, launched Royfax 130R with document feeder and ability to reduce and sort • In 1986, bought Royal Typewriter and changed named • to “Konica” an abbreviated version of Konishiroku.
