Max Zhang Reporter There has been an awesome tournament today! Max Zhang was playing a match against Brian Zhang! It was the best match ever! We were playing a 5 point match. It started as 0-0 of course. Max has started the serve, and that serve was sure a quick one! Brian had caught the ball and hit it up high, and Max smashed the ball and earned a point! It was 1-0 now. Again Max started the serve, but this one was his trick ball, it spun a lot, but Brian still hit it, but it missed the table! Now its 2-0. Brian started the serve, Max hit the ball back and Brian tried his best to smash the ball, and it hit the opponents table and he got the point! Now it is 2-1. Brian started the serve, but he also used his trick ball! Max still fell on the floor and hit the ball back! Brian didn’t notice it, so Max got the point! 3-1. Max started the serve, and Brian hit it back, but man…… this was a long one, this ball lasted for one minute, but Max got so annoyed that he smashed the ball, and it bounced on the table, and hit Brian on the chest! Now it was 4-1. Match point! Brian was getting angry. Max started the ball, full of hope that he will win, but then, sadly it hit the net! Now it was 4-2. Max sighed. Brian started the ball, but he accidently hit the ball too hard when he served, and the ball went out!!! THE WINNER IS MAX!!! 2. Grade Highlights Grade 2 CAITLIN GU Reporter 1. On December 7, all the second grade classes went on a field trip to the Shanghai No. 8 Dairy Plant and the students were able to see how yogurt was made and packaged at the factory. (They also got to sample some of the yogurt!). Students were able to see the capital resources and the human resources necessary to run a factory. At the bread factory, the students were able to see how bread was also made. They were able to buy some of the bread products with only 10 RMB. They were also able to see the opportunity costs involved when they had to choose from the many different products. All the students had a great time. This field trip reinforced what they learned in their social studies unit about goods/services; supply and demand; consumers/producers, benefits and opportunity costs. 2. The students have been learning about fossils and dinosaurs in science class. Each student had to research and create a poster about a dinosaur. These posters were presented on January 11th. 3. The second grade students have been working on persuasive writing this last quarter. Some topics that were chosen were: Is Santa Claus Real or Make-Believe?; What is a good place to go on vacation?; Persuade Mr. Manns to give us more recess; persuade the teachers not to give homework to the students; change a school rule; we want a pet. 4. Stars Featuring Writing and drawing I Want a Pet Dog ~JianKai Zhao (ET2A)~ Dear Mom, Ruff! Ruff! What’s that sound? A dog barking! Just what I wanted – a dog. Mom, please give me a dog for Christmas. Please read these three reasons why I want a dog for a pet. First of all, my dog would be my friend. He would show affection to me, and of course, I will take good care of him. Every day, when I come back from school, I’ll hug him and he will give me a wet dog kiss. He’s going to be barking at me, and I’ll carry him up and put him back in his shelter. Mom, you don’t even need to do one single thing! Secondly, the dog is going to be nice and cute. His eyes will bring brightness to me. His sound could bring happiness to me as well. His ears can be long and fluffy. His fur can be the color “dune.” He’s going to be handsome as a prince. I’ll feel like I’m in a castle with a friend. Finally, I can enjoy watching him do tricks. He can zoom across the room at his top speed. His ears are going to be like a bird’s wings. He can leap high across the sky and jump over some cones. His tricks will be pretty cool as a knight’s. Please give me a dog. I’ll take good care of him. Your honest, nice, responsible son, JianKai Zhao ~Yuhan Huang (ET1C)~ ~Isabel Hoch (ET1C)~ Comic SMICman – a truly hilarious comic strip that makes normal life seem funny… ~Emily Pan (ET1C)~ ~ Stephanie (ET4B)/Cathy Liu (ET4C)~ NEWSLETTER LOGO CONTEST!!!
