  3. Author’s Purpose: Graham Salisbury wrote the book Under the Blood Red Sun in honor of the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442 Regimental Combat Team of WW2. Theme of the Book: No matter how hard things get for anyone, they can get through it if they stick together and get help from their loving friends. Why this is the Theme: In the book, Tomi’s Father is arrested, his friend Sanji is killed, and he faces many other challenges as well. His friend never gives up on being his friend and he supports him even though he is Japanese. Author’s Purpose and Theme

  6. Nevada - hit by torpedo and Nevada beached itself. Arizona - struck by bombs. A bomb hit the ammunition center, then sank it. 1,100 killed. Tennessee - hit by two bombs and damaged by oil fires. However, it stayed afloat. West Virginia- hit by nine torpedoes and quickly sank. Maryland- The Maryland was hit by two bombs but was not heavily damaged. Oklahoma - The Oklahoma was hit by nine torpedoes then turned upside down. a large number of her crew remained trapped on board. only 32 of the crew were saved. California - struck by two torpedoes and hit by a bomb. flooding grew out of control and it sank three days later. Attack on Battleships
