WG C-3 activity – integratedriskassessment and management I • Improved & integrated Risk assessment for Groundwater at River Basin level • Update of characterisation under Art. 5 of the WFD (until 2013) • Supporting River Basin Management Planning (2nd cycle) • Adaptive Management 2012 – 2027 • „lessons learnt“ by implementing the WFD during the last years •  one guidance doc including both, conceptual models of GW-bodies and risk assessment, supplemented by case studies

WG C-3 activity – integratedriskassessment and management II • Guidance on risk assessment - further procedure • Full draft (comprising conceptual models and risk assessment) by 5th Feb. 2010 to WG C for comments • Comments by 26th Feb. 2010 • Written approval by WG C 19th March 2010 • Submission to SCG

Revision of GWD – Annexes I and II • Review of GWD annexes I and II by Jan 2013 • GENESIS could assist the procedure by examining several “candidate” pollutants, but needs input from WG C: • Questions • Criteria • Possible pollutants • GENESIS results could be used as one of the inputs of the GWD review

  8. Discussion of research needs - WG C input to FP 7 call • Groundwater ecology and groundwater as an ecosystem • Storage of carbon dioxide in deep aquifer systems • Better estimation of groundwater recharge in general and also connected to climate change • Usage of groundwater for geothermal purposes (e.g. heat pumps) •  comments/amendments by WG C by 13th Nov. 2009

  9. Outlook WG C Next WG C plenary meeting: • 19th meeting: Spain on 20th May 2010 • Back to back with a Groundwater Conference (20th/21st May 2010)
