  1. Literacy - Learn about the features of newspaper articles as we write about whether wild animals should be raised by humans. - Use formal language when writing persuasively about deforestation – will you side with the environmentalists or the local workers? - Study different structures and forms in poetry, eventually creating our own poems using the techniques we have learnt. - Collect and present information about animal’s and plant’s adaptations. We will focus on using comma and creating complex sentences. - Listen to the story of The Kapok and focus on using verbs, adjectives and adverbs effectively to describe what it must be like to be an animal losing its home. Numeracy – - Revise area and perimeter and work out problems that use these terms - Work out problems involving money and use coins and notes to think about giving change. We will also look at decimal numbers and the most effective way of working out a subtraction problem - Revise the names of 2D and 3D shapes and categorise these using Venn diagrams. - Understand how fractions describe parts of the whole and how to turn simple fractions into decimals and vice versa Begin to learn how to make fractions equivalent - Introduce the terms ratio and probability and begin using statements about how likely something is - Use different types of graphs to present information ICT– using Textease, we will input information into a branching database and ask questions about the data The RainforestYear 4 Curriculum Map3rd June – 24th July 2013 Art/DT - - investigate art, craft and design in the locality and in a variety of genres, styles and traditions - combine and organise shape, form, and space, and apply colour, tone, pattern and texture in artwork. - investigate and combine visual and tactile qualities of materials and processes and to match these qualities to the purpose of the work Geography – Identify features on photographs and annotate by analysing different rainforests across the globe. Annotate and label a sketch drawn in The Living Rainforest Learn how animals and plants adapt to their environment Identify how and why places change and recognise how and why people may seek to manage environments sustainably PSHE – learn how to deal with feelings that arise when changes occur in our lives Music – . - explore and explain their own ideas and feelings about music using movement, dance, expressive language and musical vocabulary - use ICT to capture, change and combine sounds RE Explore the question – Is it necessary to go to church to be a good Christian? Children will think about why Christians go to church and develop their opinions about traditions and Christian practices. Science We will be exploring the biology of plants as well as developing our skills of observing and classifying. P.E We will be working on improving our “ personal bests” in Athletic events such as sprinting, hurdling, throwing and jumping. We will also play quik cricket to improve our throwing, bowling, catching and fielding skills.
