  7. Implementation Timeline • Communication plan – Begins July 2005 • Badge validation campaign – July through August 2005 • Activation – August 29, 2005

  8. NIH Employee/ContractorPedestrian Entrance • 8 dedicated pedestrian entrances • Available for use 24/7 • Requires use of NIH ID badge • Two-step process to enter and exit prevents “piggybacking” • Intercom call boxes in place for assistance • Camera surveillance at each pedestrian entrance

  9. NIH Employee/ContractorVehicle Entrances • 6 vehicle entry points • Current hours of operation for employee gates will remain the same • Requires use of NIH ID badge • Guard staff will visually verify ID • Drivers and all passengers in a vehicle required to have an NIH or DHHS ID badge

  11. How does the perimeter security system affect the NIH Visitor? Two points of entry onto the campus: • Gateway Center at Metro (355 and South Drive): vehicles/pedestrians • Hours of Operation: 24/7 • West Visitor Entrance (Old Georgetown Road and South Drive): pedestrians only • Hours of Operation: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

How does the perimeter security system affect Patients and Patient Visitors? • Patients and patient visitors will be provided assistance from CC Hospitality Staff at NIH Patient Entrance • Patients and patient visitors arriving by car will enter through patient entrance at West Drive & Cedar Lane • Hours of operation:Monday through Friday7am – 3 pm

Phase I: Operational Changes Summary • Employee Access: • Employee pedestrian access via pedestrian portals (24/7) with use of NIH ID badge • Employee vehicle access with use of NIH ID badge at entrances • No change to current vehicle gate schedule • Visitor Access: • All visitor screening and badging at perimeter of campus for both pedestrians and vehicles • Pedestrian visitor access • Temporary Visitor Center (Metro) 24/7 • West Visitor Center (Old Georgetown and South Drive) normal business hours Monday through Friday • Vehicular vehicle screening and access at Metro entrance 24/7 • Pre-registered visitor access in employee vehicles via an on-line registration process • Patients and Patient Visitors: • Dedicated patient/patient visitor entrance at West Drive/Cedar Lane in place and operational since April 2005 • Shuttles: • Inbound shuttles will drop non-NIH employees at visitor center (Metro), undergo security screening of vehicle and enter campus. • Secure shuttles provided at Temporary Visitors Center (Metro) for screened visitors
