  1. Progress report on the HMPID LV System • Cabling and LV sectors • The WIENER PS Low Voltage Solution • System Improvements with the New A1676W R3.04 Firmware • Preliminary Test results • Conclusions

  2. Cabling and LV sectors

  3. Cabling and LV sectors LV Sensing wires Sensor cables

  4. The LV System Setup with the WIENER PL500 F8 ETM PVSSII GUI and Control Software ETM OPC Client Software CAEN SY1527 Control Software (Linux OS based) CAEN OPC Server CAEN A1676W Control Firmware Weiner PL500 Control Firmware CAEN Wrapper Lib

  5. Main goals of the PL500 F8 remote control Slow response time (2 sec) Low reliability (Already implemented) ETM PVSSII GUI and Control Software Our solution Best solution ETM OPC Client Software CAEN SY1527 Control Software (Linux OS based) CAEN OPC Server CAEN A1676W Control Firmware Weiner PL500 Control Firmware CAEN Wrapper Lib Requirements of the remote control system: complete, fast and reliable. Complete: each LV channel has to be equipped with an exhaustive set of controlled parameters, including the power On/Off, the single channel Trip Off and the channel grouping for bipolar electronics that are missed in the present Wiener PS version. Fast: the remote control response time in case of OVV, OVC,… should be as fast as possible to prevent electronics' damaging. Reliable: the system safety has to be anyway ensured in case of: missing Ethernet and/or Can Bus connection, SY 1527 Power cut off and/or control software (PVSS) crash.

  6. A1676W Can Bus Branch Controller A1676W Interface Board • A1676WWiener PS Controller characteristics: • The Model A1676W is a board, designed for the SY1527/2527/3527 System family, which • allows to control up to 8 W-IE-NE-R Mod. PL500 power supplies via CANBUS. The board • is single-width. • The A1676W can handle 64 PS channels, since each PL500 can house up to 8 channels. All the channels are seen as Caen channels. • The board allows to control the PS channels through a complete set of programmable • parameters, such as output voltage, current limits, etc.

  7. The improved features of the PL500F8 via the New A1676W R3.04 Firmware • New Channel Features: • Single Channel ON/OFF (CH PW) • Single Channel TRIPOFF (CH TRIPOFF) • Channel Grouping • New PL500 feature: • Enable/disable the Bipolar Grouping Mode (CR GRP).

  8. Telnet Window New A1676W R3.04 Firmware Telnet Window

  9. Measure of the Channel Tripoff Response Time (TR) A CH TRIPOFF has been induced (OVC on Ch#1), we measured the switch OFF time of the single channel (reaction time). LECROY 9310AM Telnet connection Can Bus (speed 1 Mbps) Can Bus probe 1 CAEN SY 1527 A1676W WIENER PL500 F8 Power Supply Channel 1 probe 2

  10. Statistical analysis of TR A1676W FW R. 3.04:

  11. Measure of the Crate Tripoff Response Time When the crate TRIPOFF option is enabled, on the over-current occurrence, about 5 ms are requested to switch OFF the entire power box. LECROY 9310AM WIENER PL500 F8 Power Supply Channel 1 probe 1

  12. System reliability Interlock Interlock In case of CANbus controller power cut (SY1527 power cut) , an Interlock signal switches Off the connected PS’s. Recovering of the settings after a power cut is guaranteed since all the values are written in the E2PROM of the A1676A. In case of CANbus disconnection, the occurrence of an over current can be limited by setting each channel Current Limit’ equal to the OVC. Is now under study the activation (via PVSS) of the the Interlock line to switch Off in a selective way the “unplugged” PS. If the Ethernet connection is missed, the system still remains in its full operation. Ethernet Connection A 1676W CAEN SY 1527 WIENER PL500 F8 POWER SUPPLY Can Bus

  13. Conclusions • The PL500F8 technical specifications fits the LV sector requirements but the control features. • The prototype of the new project CAEN –WIENER(A1676W), with single channel ON⁄OFF, grouping,…, is now running! The test results on the reaction time, are in agreement with the expectations and are very encouraging!! • The PVSS HMPID LV Control has been updated taking into account the new PS features
