WIPO - mandate and international cooperation • WIPO Convention: protection and promotion of IP throughout the world … and collaboration with other IGO’s • various WIPO-administered treaties • Cooperation Agreements with WTO (1995) and subsequent initiatives for developing (1998) and LDC’s (2001) and other Organizations

Advisory Committee on EnforcementWIPO Assembly (September 2002) • one single Committee in charge of global enforcement issues with objectives: • coordination with certain organizations and the private sector to combat counterfeiting and piracy; • public education; assistance; • coordinate national and regional training; exchange of information

  4. sessions of the “ACE” • 1st session: June 2003 • 2nd session: June 2004 - role of the judiciary and quasi-judicial authorities, as well as of the prosecution, in enforcement activities • 3rd session: May 2006 - education, awareness-building and training • 4th session: end 2007 - coordination and cooperation at the international, regional and national levels
