Fort Peck Death Review • Fort Peck Tribes • Information compiled on cause of death from the fort Peck Tribes death review, from FY01-FY06 there was an average 90.5 deaths/year. • Fort Peck Tribes: Based on average deaths per year an estimated 17 tribal members die from alcohol related deaths, 18%: 16 die from heart disease 17%: and 16 die from cancer17%. • Montana State • Data from the State In 2004-2005 there were 219 deaths for residents of Roosevelt County 100 Non Natives and 119 Native American • The median age of deaths for NA was 56 compared to 79 for Non Natives, For Non Natives only 1 of 100 deaths was under the age of 45 as compared to 40 per 119 for NA • Leading cause of death: Cancer 20 @ 17%, 18 alcohol rated deaths 15% heart disease 14 @ 12%,

  3. Good Woman Comes Out • Participating Organizations: Indian Health Service, Fort Peck Community College and Health Programs from the Fort Peck Tribes • Target Population: Women over the age of 40 • Project Sites: Fort Peck Community College Wellness Centers in Poplar and Wolf Point, Mt.

Good Woman Comes Out • Activity Outcomes: there were a total of 57 female participants, who were given the following information: A Traditional elder presented information on: • The use of natural medicines for healing of various illnesses and diseases. • Other elderly women presented our traditional and cultural values that once defined our tribe, the two main values were: • Responsibility • Respect.

  5. Good Woman Comes Out • A presentation on genetics and health was given by facility from the University of Washington to all the Wolf Point participants. • Packet of cancer awareness information was made available and a Public notice on the procedures for scheduling mammograms through Indian Health Service. • As an incentive participants received manicure, pedicures, hair styling, massage therapy, exercise and healthy food snacks and free door prizes.
