  1. The Portland/Vancouver Metropolitan Regional Urban Forestry Strategy A regional strategy to promote healthy urban forests in the Portland/Vancouver metro area by: • Increasing Urban Tree Canopy • FosteringRegional Collaboration • Expanding Management Capacity • The proposed Regional Urban Forestry Strategy will serve to… • Help local jurisdictions achieve successful urban forestry programs that increase canopy cover and reap the ecosystem services that urban forests provide. • Focus on advancing urban forestry programs through technical and educational assistance and peer-to-peer discussions. • Provide collaborative environments for best management practices, current research, and alternative planning approaches to be shared. • Foster a comprehensive strategy through a regional ecosystem analysis and needs assessment, stakeholder workshops and forums, and local projects focused on the health of the urban forest as a whole. • Provide a replicable template for other metropolitan areas looking to advance regional urban forestry efforts as part of the national Vibrant Cities and Urban Forests recommendations. February – March 2013 As part of our effort to build regional collaboration and public engagement around trees, we encourage urban natural resource professionals, community leaders, and the public to participate in this initiative. Learn more about this strategy, by attending the Spring Intertwine Summit being held on Friday, April 26, 2013. This event will feature a workshop on “Marketing and Communicating the Benefits of Trees” and will offer more information about the current status of the Regional Urban Forestry Strategy. More information about the Summit can be found at: www.theintertwine.org.
