Sat under a thorn tree having just ridden the Long Tom Pass, a 40km tarred road winding down the famous Drakensburg Mountains. It has twists and turns and surface changes to keep you on your mettle, in some parts it reminds me of the old Spa GP circuit in Belgium… it’s refreshing to ride on roads with so little traffic, and far less policing… my lasting impression is that the locals really encourage the bikers… my favourite road is the 40km or so from Sabie to Hazyview. This particular road has to be the next best thing to heaven… this part of South Africa is the best kept secret in the UK, I had the time of my life here and am already planning how to get back as soon as possible”.
