  4. POSITIVE EXPECTATIONS • “Each child is living the only life he has—the only one he will ever have. The least we can do is not diminish it.” • *Celebrate the first day of school, not the last • *Be inviting and build relationships intentionally (address each student by name) • *Dress for success (It is not what is, but what is perceived that counts) • *Teachers get what they expect (as little or as much)

Ineffective teachers DISCIPLINE their classrooms.” • *Be prepared: have room, work and self READY • *Your reputation precedes you—maintain a positive image • *Greet students at the door everyday. • *Arrange seats for communication • *Post assignments daily and consistently • *Roll-taking should not take away from instructional time • *Keep a running progress of student work (updated gradebook) • *Have a discipline plan and keep it (be proactive, not reactive) • *Procedures, Procedures, Procedures!!!
