EUROPE 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth [COM(2010) 2020], improves the method of standard setting and the use of standards in Europe (European and international) for the long-term competitiveness of European industry and for the achievement of important policy goals in areas such as e-government, e-health or e-accessibility. The European Parliament report on the future of European standardisationadopted on 21 October 2010 Priority of the Europe 2020 strategy reflected in Communication of 13 April 2011 on “The Single Market Act“ Twelve levers to boost growth and confidence, among its twelve key priority actions to be adopted by the EU institutions before the end of 2012 – standards for services New EU framework for standardisation in response to:

In consistency and in support of: New EU framework for standardization • Europe 2020 Flagship Initiatives on the Innovation Union [COM(2010)546], • Industrial Policy [COM(2010)614], • Digital Agenda for Europe [COM(2010)245] and a Resource Efficient Europe [COM(2011)21], • Single Market Act [COM(2011)206], • Disability Strategy 2010-2020[COM(2010)636].

  4. New EU framework for standardisation is based on two documents • A strategic vision for European standards: Moving forward to enhance and accelerate the sustainable growth of the European economy by 2020 – COM (2011) 311 – final • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European Standardisation and amending Council Directives 89/686/EEC and 93/15/EEC and Directives 94/9/EC, 94/25/EC, 95/16/EC, 97/23/EC, 98/34/EC, 2004/22/EC, 2007/23/EC, 2009/105/EC and 2009/23/EC New EU framework for standardisation

Alignment of existing legislation to Regulation 765/2008/EC and Decision 768/2008/EC • Council Directive 89/686/EEC - PPE • Council Directive 93/15/EEC – Explosives for civil use • EP and Council Directive 94/9/EC – ATEX • EP and Council Directive 94/25/EC – Recreational crafts • EP and Council Directive 95/16/EC – Lifts New EU framework for standardisation + „Omnibus“ solution

Alignment of existing legislation to Regulation 765/2008/EC and Decision 768/2008/EC New EU framework for standardisation + „Omnibus“ solution • EP and Council Directive 97/23/EC – PE • EP and Council Directive 2004/22/EC – MID • EP and Council Directive 2007/23/EC – Pyrotechnicalarticles • EP and Council Directive 2009/105/EC – Simplepressurevesels • EP and Council Directive 2009/23/EC – Non-automaticweighinginstruments
