  3. Outcomes • In this presentation, participants will develop an understanding of the four roles of the JHU online instructor as well as the roles of the Instructor Support.

  5. Instructor Roles in Online Learning Pedagogical Social Technical Managerial (Berge, 1995)

  6. Instructor Tasks:Pedagogical • Facilitate discussion/chats • Provide feedback • Prompt reflection • Provide context expertise • Integrate team-based activities • Promote a variety of interactions and opportunities for learning • Support flexibility

Instructor Support Tasks: Pedagogical Role • Provide online instructor training • Develop chat and discussion strategies in advance and co-facilitate chat • Assistance with providing formal midpoint course feedback to students • Track learner participation • Set expectations for timely and quality feedback from instructor • Develop rubrics and scoring tools • Support teambuilding and collaboration
