  6. Counting Method When working out time difference we will use the Counting Method. This method will always work. 60 mins = 1hr 3 hrs 6 mins Example : Find the time difference between 08 46 hrs and 11 52 hrs Hrs Mins nearest hour www.mathsrevision.com 08 46  09 00 14 hours 09 00  11 00 2 What’s left? + 11 00  11 52 52 2 66 Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  7. Counting Method Example : Find the time difference between 02 37 hrs and 23 49 hrs Hrs Mins nearest hour 02 37  03 00 23 hours 03 00  23 00 20 What’s left? + 23 00  23 49 49 www.mathsrevision.com 20 72 21hrs 12mins Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  10. Distance Working Out Distance Learning Intention Success Criteria • Know the distance formula. • 1. To explain how to work out simple distance calculations using the distance formula. • 2. Use the formula to work out simple distance calculations. www.mathsrevision.com Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  11. Distance Working out Distances Imagine you were travelling in a train at a steady speed of 80km/hr. In 1 hour you travel : 80 x 1 = 80 km In 2 hours you travel : 80 x 2 = 160 km In 3 hours you travel : 80 x 3 = 240 km www.mathsrevision.com Can you guess what the formula is : in symbols Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  12. Time Distance Speed Mixed Problems Example : Liam drove from his house to the Fort William, a distance of 315 miles. It took him 3hrs. What was his average speed? Working www.mathsrevision.com Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  13. Distance Working Out Distance Now try Ex 3 Ch10 (page 111) www.mathsrevision.com Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  15. Speed Working Out Speed Learning Intention Success Criteria • Know the speed formula. • 1. To explain how to work out simple speed calculations using the speed formula. • 2. Use the formula to work out simple speed calculations. www.mathsrevision.com Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.

  16. Speed Working Out Speed Imagine you sailed 45 kilometres between two islands and it took 3 hours. In 3 hours you travel : = 45 km In 1 hour you travel : 45 ÷ 3 = 15 km This means your speed is : 15km/hr www.mathsrevision.com Can you guess what the formula is : in symbols Created by Mr. Lafferty Maths Dept.
