  1. PROGRAM INCOME Announcing a new Program Income web page http://www.washington.edu/research/gca/uwin/policies.html Ted Mordhorst Assistant Director Post Award Compliance Grant & Contract Accounting tedm2@uw.edu

  2. PROGRAM INCOME The web page contains: Description of program income and the various treatment methods. How to account for program income during and after the award period. Procedures for establishing and administering program income budgets

  3. What is Program Income? Earned income (Revenue) that is directly generated by a sponsor supported activity or earned as a result of an award.

  4. Key Points • Program Income is the property of the sponsor and is to be accounted for in accordance with the terms and conditions of the award. • Most federal RESEARCH awards allow program income to be used to further project/program objectives. • Unexpended program income is returned to the sponsor.

  5. Key Points • Most Non-Federal sponsors do not address program income in the award or in Terms and Conditions. • Revenue generation related to non-federal awards and fixed-price agreements is not accounted for as program income unless the sponsor specifies otherwise.

  6. Key Points • Revenue generated by a recharge/cost center may be program income if the center is supported by a sponsored agreement. • Sponsor approval is generally not required to generate program income. • GCA will review requests to establish a program income budget.

  7. Key Points • The GCA Program Income web page has a link to a form for requesting a program income budget. • The form is designed to provide information to determine: • If the revenue to be generated is program income. • If sponsor approval is needed. • If a rate review is required (Recharge/Cost Center).

  8. Additional information • Detailed information on Program Income including operating procedures is available on the GCA web site at: http://www.washington.edu/research/gca/uwin/policies.html#_Toc257965087 • QUESTIONS?
