  3. Microsystem A microsystem is the immediate setting in which an individual is directly exposed too on a daily basis. This level has a major impact on the adolescent. Failure to interact with others within his new community. • Family • Single Mother, Father passed away • 6 months ago. • Only child • His mother has recently been offered • a new job, in Canberra. They originally had • lived Sydney. • School • Due to his mother new job, • he has had to start a • new school. • Anti social a bitter • due to having to start • over. • Religious Beliefs • Used to be a very • devout Catholic and • close to his parish. • Due to his experiences • of his father passing • away, he has in turn lost faith. • Community • New surrounding, new neighbours and friends. • Total change in culture and • attitudes which he was accustomed too. His sudden changes in life have caused him to become resistant and rebellious.

  4. Mesosystem The second element in Brofenbrenner’s model is the mesosystem. It provides a link or connection between the different settings in the adolescents life, significantly within their microsystem. His new community and peers has made it difficult for Charlie during his time of need. A large part of his microsystem has changed which in turn effects his ecological system as a whole. Microsystem The relationship Between Charlie and his school, is off to a negative start. This links in with his outlook on education, therefore he may be effected academically. Also having a negative relationship with his teacher. Change in personality in order to fit in with peer expectations of his new class mates. Relationship with his teacher and mother is one of concern for Charlie, which therefore allows Charlie to feel smothered and trapped. Charlie’s relationship with his mother has become bitter since the move. This is linked to concepts within his microsystem, due to his family life lacking stability.

  5. Exosystem The Exosystem is a layer in which the adolescent does not deal with directly, but can greatly effect the inner layers. An can play a large roll and significant impact on their development. Due to his Mother’s income being minimal he cannot afford such leisure's as his peers. Their financial position has effect Charlie socially. Subsequently as a result of his mothers new job they are now able to live a more comfortable life. Feeling as though he must assume the male dominate role within his family. This has caused him to feel as though he must grow up before his time. His fathers death is something he had no control, yet it effects him greatly. Mesosystem Microsystem Having to leave home has greatly effected by Charlie, his entire world as he knew it has changed and has had to start over as a result. This is a structural part of his life yet he has no effect over it. He does not chose were to move to, yet it effects him. Sydney has a different way of life as opposed to Canberra, a different mindset on what significant in life. This move can alter the development of Charlie’s personality and values.

  6. Macrosystem The Macrosystem is based on the global and ideological aspects of the adolescents life. It contains the core values an structures that compose a particular culture. ( White . F, B. Hayes, D.Livesey, Developmentally psychology (pp. 1-29). ) Due to coming from a suburban a area of Canberra he was never exposed to the different people and cultures encompassed in Sydney this could cause a slight culture shock for Charlie who led a sheltered life. Change in his surroundings and atmosphere he was accustom to, his new town which is more fast paced, that has little time for religious or spiritual obligations. It therefore contributes to Charlie's already lack of faith to move further away from his spiritual life. Exosystem Mesosystem Microsystem The expectations of society, and feeling of having to conform to fit in, rather than being a individual. His value of education is not as it was before. His mother places a great value on education and enforces this value on Charlie. His lack of spiritual life and structure, could potentially lead him to bad habits such as smoking and associating with what society perceives as bad crowd.

Finical position within society, not being able to purchase the same objects of their peers, which effects them socially. Microsystem Mother’s location of employment. Community School Religious beliefs. Family Relationship between his mother. Relationship with the church. Change in personality to fit in with his peers. Lack of Faith. Father’s Death. Little time for religious or spiritual obligations Societies expectations Culture shock of a new town and culture.
