Curriculum At A Glance… • Addition and Subtraction (ie: facts and number stories) • Linear Measurements and Area (ie: measuring using a ruler/ finding area and perimeter) • Multiplication and Division (three units- building from fact practice to longer problems and number stories/ depicting multiplication and division in different ways) • Place Value in Whole Numbers and Decimals (ie: reading and writing large numbers/ reading numbers on both sides of a decimal point)

  6. End of Year Curriculum… • Geometry (ie: lines/segments/2-D and 3-D shapes) • Fractions (ie: naming and comparing) • Measurement and Data (ie: Length/Weight/Mean and Median) • Probability (ie: using data to predict outcomes) • *** Emphasis all year on mathematical thinking and problem solving along with necessary skills for students (ie: time/ money)

  7. Math Assessments • Informal assessment (ie: observations/ exit slips/participation) • Checks for understanding (starred material) • Open Response with rubric • Self Assessments • End of Unit assessments • Part A (material that should be mastered) • Part B (material practiced but not yet mastered) • Grading of Parts A/B will vary test to test

  8. Components of a Lesson • Mental Math and Reflexes • Math Message • Lesson (including hands on activities, math journal pages, math boxes) • Game Day (use manipulatives and practice skills through games)

  9. Lattice- Multiplication Algorithm • Step 1: Write the problem and the appropriate “box” • Step 2: Label the numbers around the box • Step 3: Use basic facts to multiply each digit together. Place the answer in the appropriate half box. • Step 4: Add up numbers on a diagonal. • ***Sample Journal Page 226
