What is Fantasy Sports? • A fantasy sport is a game, where members amass nonexistent or virtual groups of genuine players of a real professional sport by the usage of Internet. • These teams compete based on the statistical performance of those players' in actual games. This performance is converted into points that are compiled and totaled according to a roster selected by each fantasy team's manager.

  3. History of Fantasy Sports. • Shortly after the era of World War II the concept of picking players and running a contest on the basis of year dated stats was risen. One of the earliest published accounts involved in fantasy sports are Oakland businessman and Limited partner of Oakland Raiders Wilfred "Bill" Winkenbach. He devised fantasy golf in the last piece of the 1950s. • Toward the beginning of October 1995, a dream hockey site was discharged by Molson Breweries. It enabled guests to enlist accounts and take an interest in hockey groups of nine groups, in which the guest would be the senior supervisor for one of those groups.

A trade group for the industry, the Fantasy Sports Trade Association was formed in 1998. • Other entries to the market during this era included Fanball.com, launched in 1999 by the parent company of Fantasy Football Weekly. • Fantasy sports continued to grow with a 2003 Fantasy Sports Trade Association survey showing 15 million people playing fantasy football and spending about $150 a year on average, making it a $1.5 billion industry.

Fantasy Sports in India • As per the fantasy sports information offered by Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG), two out of three sports fans in India know of fantasy sports. • One of the reasons for the popularity of fantasy sports in India is the mass availability of mobile 4G network, which was initiated by Reliance Jio. • The fantasy India market is expected to reach over $5 billion in the next two years. This industry is not only attracting customers, but is also very popular among Venture Capital and Private Equity Investors.

By the end of 2019, the industry is expected to have about 100 million users. • Popular fantasy sports games in India are cricket, football, basketball, hockey, kabaddi(Proxy Khel), and badminton. • Fantasy industry standards in India are regulated by Indian Federation of Sports Gaming, as there are no set government regulations.
