  2. B-Tec First Award in Sport

  3. COURSE CONTENT • Unit 1 – Health & Fitness for Sport & Exercise • Students carry out a range of fitness tests on themselves and study different methods of training. During this process students look at professional players in different sports. This is assessed by an exam at the end. • Unit 2 – Practical Sports Performance • This unit allows students to study 2 practical activities. The assignments that they complete include; to record a log or diary of the practical lessons, design a leaflet to inform beginners about the key rules and regulations of the activity, to perform an analysis of performance of an individual. • Then 2 additional units of work, such as: The Mind and Sports Performance, Training for Personal Fitness, Leading Sports Activities.

ASSESSMENT • Students are assessed through assignments from each unit and sit an exam in year 10. • Assignments are completed over the duration of your studies. • The course is 75% coursework. 25% examination. • You are graded from pass (GCSE C), Merit (B) and Distinction (A). • If you are going to college, the B-Tec is recognised to the same value as the GCSE.

Am I Suitable • Are you enthusiastic and passionate about P.E lessons? • If you find exams challenging, this course may be for you. • You may find it difficult to perform well in 4 practical activities. • You are well organised with your homework/ coursework. • You can meet deadlines. • You are well organised with your P.E kit.

  6. GCSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

  7. COURSE CONTENT • Anatomy and Physiology • Fitness Testing & Training • Diet & Nutrition • Sports Injury • Sponsorship and Funding in Sport • Leisure and Recreation

  8. ASSESSMENT • 2 Pieces of Coursework (Controlled Conditions). • One is Lifestyle and Fitness Testing. • The other is Analysis of Performance in a Sport. • 2 module exams; Both taken in the summer of Year 11.

Am I Suitable? • Are you enthusiastic and passionate about P.E lessons? • If you are a good sports performer in four or more practical activities. • If you are able to perform well in exams. • You are well organised with your P.E kit. • You are willing to apply yourself to the theory content of the course!

  10. Expectations It is expected that if you are successful in gaining a place on either the GCSE or B-Tec courses you will need to: • Be well organised with your P.E kit to all lessons. • Buy a P.E performance shirt. • Enrol on and successfully complete the leadership course being run during the summer term of year 9. • Understand that the P.E examined courses are not just about playing sport!
