  2. Reflexive – sepromener (to take a walk) Il se promènedans la pluie. Not reflexive – promener – to walk Ils promènent leurs chiens.

  3. Reflexive – selaver (to wash oneself) Il se lave. Not reflexive – laver – to wash Il lave la voiture

  4. Reflexive – sebrosser (to brush one’s hair) Elle se brosse les cheveux. Note the use of the definite article Not reflexive – brosser – to brush Elle brosse les cheveux de ta petite sœur.

  5. What is a reflexive verb? • It’s an action that you do to yourself. **** • The verb has a reflexive pronoun. • Example: to brush your hair – se brosser les cheveux to wake up – se réveiller to wash your hands – se laver les mains ****There are many reflexive/reciprocal verbs in French!

  7. subject – reflexive pronoun - verb The reflexive pronouns follow the same rules as all of the other pronouns. In the present tense, the reflexive pronoun goes in front of the verb. Il se réveille. He wakes up. Elle se lave. She washes herself. Ils se rasent les figures. They are shaving their faces.

  8. Present tense conjugationSame as –ER verbs In the negative, the ne…pas goes around the reflexive pronoun and the verb. Examples: Je ne me couche pas. Il ne se rase pas. Tu ne te maquilles pas. Nous ne nous lavons pas.
