  1. Everything you always wanted to know about…

  2. …CERN’s new mobile operator Peter JURCSO BE-CO-IN

  3. Why to change now? • CERN regularly re-tendering service contracts to have the “Best value for money” • Call for tender for new mobile operator was launched in 2014 after 8 years with Sunrise • Contract with new provider approved by Finance Committee in December 2014 • 4 years initial contract with optional extensions up to 16 years for mobile voice and data services

  4. Swisscom • Improved mobile services • LTE (4G) available on Swiss side • UMTS (3G) and LTE (4G) under authorization for French side • UMTS (3G) and LTE (4G) in the underground facilitiesup to 150Mbps download speed in LHC experimental areas • New tariffs: • ~ 50% cost reduction in average • Significantly cheaper data roaming • New SIM cards and new numbers

  5. Network migration challenges • The network must be installed while operating the current one: • New space, fibers & power supplies required in all sites • New mast/antennae for outdoor coverage • The complexity of the network : • 2G, 3G and 4G in all sites • 14 outdoor & 37 indoor sites • 17 CERN indoor sites in the LHC (REs & TI8) • Advanced services must be integrated: • Roaming control, switch board interconnection… • Regulation and legal permits in two countries • The new network will be ready by 1st of June

  6. Outdoor (14 installations) • Meyrin (3 sites): • Building 60 • Water tower • Building 361 (PS) • Prevessin (2 sites): • Building 866 • Building 887 • SPS (1 site): • BB4 • LHC (8 sites) • SD2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 • SZ33 • SDX1

  7. Indoor and underground (54) • LHC: • 9 sites on the surface covering the lifts and caverns • 16 CERN sites in the REs covering the tunnel • SCX5 • Transfer lines : • 1 sites covering TI2 and 1 CERN site covering TI8 • SPS (8 sites) • Meyrin: • PS, AD, LINAC3, LINAC 4, N_TOF, CFT3, ISR, DIRAC, ISOLDE • Buildings 358, 2013, 839 • Prevessin: • North area, building 911 • SM18 (1 site) • Transmission: • Buildings 58, 513, 874

  8. Migration • New number range: +41 75 411 xxxx • 16xxxx will not change • You are responsible to inform your outside contacts and update your websites, databases, applications, documentation etc. • SIM cards distributed from 1st of June • In 774-1-032 as already confirmed by email • Same size as your current one (mini/micro or nano) • Activation of cards on 15th of June • to be able to test them with your phone Change of SIM cards on 24th of June at 09:00

  9. Service update schedule • 23 June 17:30-23:00 • Foundation database, Active directoryLDAP, XLDAP, CSDB (landb) • 24 June 0:00-3:00 • Lyncand Exchange servers, Service Now • 24 June 8:30-9:00 • E-groups using mail2sms gateway, phonebook • Switchboard for 16xxxx • EDH, CET, HRT, HR databases • 24 June after 9:00 • Mobicall, DIAMON notifications, LASER • Spectrum, ODM, CSAM, BAAN

  10. After the migration • Update your contacts by using the web toolhttps://cern.ch/resources/Manage/EMail/gsmmigration.aspxAttention! Do not use it before the migration: no roll back possible! • From 24th June 12:00 until 31st August • Old numbers will be redirected to an automatic message informing the caller on the new number • Impossible to inform SMS senders! • 1st of July: Sunrise equipment switched off • Expect loss of Sunrise coverage in Pays de Gex: consider to change your private subscriptions • Private option temporary will be unavailable on Swisscom network

  11. Mail2sms gateway change • Only the international format will be accepted (which can be already used): +fullnumber@mail2sms.cern.ch 16xxxx -> +4175411xxxx@mail2sms.cern.ch Check your applications and databases! • E-groups containing mail2sms addresses will be automatically converted • SMS will contain the first 160 chars of: Sender_address+ space + Email_subject+ space + Email_body

  12. Unchanged after the migration • Short16xxxx numbers • Subscription type (professional/private) • Calling privileges (outside calls, roaming) • Mail2sms with full international number Document reference

  13. Summary: Important dates • 1 June • Start of SIM card distribution • 15 June • Activation of SIM cards • 24 June: Migration day • 9:00 change of SIM cards • 12:00 no more incoming calls on the old number • 1 July • Sunrise equipment switched off • 31 August • End of number new number announcement on the old numbers
