  2. The Seventh Commandment • The command: You shall not commit adultery. • The verb: na-aph ( ¹an) – sexual intercourse with wife or betrothed of another man • Other sexual sins forbidden • Fornication • Rape • Incest • Sodomy • Physical unity tied to covenantal unity (1 Cor. 6:15ff)

  3. The Seventh Commandment • Prohibited • Lustful thoughts • Immodest clothing • “Allowing, tolerating, keeping of stews, and resorting to them” (WLC 139) • Commanded • Chastity • Diligent labor in our callings • All-encompassing

The Seventh Commandment and Homosexuality • Homosexual behavior condemned • “Abomination” • Not the “unforgiveable sin” – 1 Cor. 6:9-11 • Homosexual “inclinations” or temptations • Our response to homosexuals • Call to repentance • Context of love and forgiveness • As with other sinners • Not permanent banishment • Different from continuing in the practice of sin
