  2. What is Brain Tumour? Download App An abnormal growth of cells in the Brain leads to a brain tumour. Unlike the normal and healthy cells in the body, the tumour cells do not die and keep on accumulating to the mass thereby disrupting the proper functioning of the brain. The brain tumours might either be Benign or Malignant. www.meddco.co m

  3. Brain Tumour: Indroduction Download App Benign brain tumour: These are the non-cancerous growth originating in the brain and are generally non-aggressive and do not spread to other parts of the body. Having said that, Benign brain tumours can still be fatal. Malignant brain tumour: Unlike the benign tumour, they are cancerous and spread aggressively to the surrounding tissues and in its worst form can affect the central nervous system. • • www.meddco.co m

  4. Symptoms of Brain Tumour: Download App The symptoms may be different for individuals depending upon the category of the tumour and the part of brain it affects. Chronic headache that does not go away with medications. Nausea and drowsiness Short term memory loss Coordination issues Seizures Tingling sensation in the arms or legs. Personality or behavioural changes Concentration issues Impaired speech or hearing Difficulty in balancing Please note that these symptoms may not always be associated with a Brain tumour and can occur due to several reasons. • • • • • • • www.meddco.co m

  5. Causes of Brain Tumour: Download App • A brain tumour may be caused by the uncontrolled multiplications of the • brain cells or in the nearby tissues. It might happen due to a genetic • mutation in their DNA leading to the accumulation of the abnormal cells. • In certain cases, a cancer that originates in some other part of the body • metastasizes to the brain thereby causing a brain tumour. A cancer of • the breast, colon, Lung or Kidney can spread up to the brain. www.meddco.co m

  6. Brain Tumor Diagnosis Download App The diagnosis of Brain tumour happens via a Neurological examination if the doctor suspects a brain tumour during the physical examination. It is confirmed post a CT Scan or an MRI. In some cases an Angiogram or an MRA may be advised to detect abnormal blood vessels in the brain. A Biopsy is performed to detect if the tumour is cancerous by scraping a portion of the growth either during a surgery or by inserting a needle and the sample is sent for testing purpose. www.meddco.co m

  7. Treatment of brain tumor Download App • There are several factors that the healthcare professionals take into consideration before suggesting a treatment for Brain tumour. The factors include the age, medical history, location and size of the tumour etc. Some of the most common types of treatments are: Surgery: A surgery of the brain is performed to remove the tumour without affecting the healthy cells in the surrounding. In some cases the doctors may not be able to remove the entire tumour during surgery and often radiation and chemotherapy are required for removing the residual cells. A surgery is not advised if the cancer has already spread across a wide area of the brain. Radiation therapy: A radiation therapy is performed with an intent to kill the cancerous cells or inhibit their growth. The tumour is subjected to high intensity beams of energy and the immune system fights against the already destroyed cells. The downside of radiation therapy is that, it is unable to distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells and might end up destroying both. • • www.meddco.co m

  8. Brain Tumor Treatment Radiosurgery: A radiosurgery or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is performed by focussing a precise dose of X-Ray beam only on the affected area of the brain. This prevents the damage of the healthy tissues in the body. There is a 36 percent survival rate for a five-year span for people detected with Brain tumour. The survival rate is reduced with age. The treatment cost of Brain tumour is dependent on the type and the severity and the area of brain it has affected most. Please consult our team of healthcare professionals at Meddco’s to know the right treatment for yourself or if anyone you know is suffering from Brain Tumour. Prevention: There is no way a Brain tumour can be prevented but the risk of getting it can certainly be reduced by the following: Avoid smoking Limit the exposure to radiations Keep away from Carcinogens such as insecticides and pesticides. • • • • • • •
