  3. Getting Your Student ID • If you did not submit a photo, go to 206 Steele Hall on SU Campus. Must show a driver’s license or passport • SU ID serves as personal ID; gives you access to many campus resources

  4. Setting up Your E-mail Account • Your SU/ESF Net ID is also your e-mail address. Visit https://selfserv.syr.edu/selfserv/acctActivation?execution=e1s1 for more information on activating. • You will have both an @syr.edu and @esf.edu email address. • All graduate students are automatically enrolled in the graduate listserv. Be sure to check your e-mail often so you don’t miss out on anything!

  5. Passwords • As an ESF student you will use two systems: MySlice and MyESF • MySlice – used to register/add or drop classes. Requires NetID (a personal identifier that is used to access SU computing resources) and PIN to log in. • To activate NetID, you will need your SUID • Original PIN for NetID is day/year of your birth (i.e. April 2, 1980 - 021980)

Passwords cont. • MyESF – change address, access grade report, and update contact information. • Requires NetID and a password to log on • Initial password consists of the last 5 numbers of your SUID plus “!” • If you forget your ESF password, there is a link on the site to reset it. • Note: You will not be able to log into MyESF until the day after you first activate your NetID on MySlice

  7. WI FI Access Around Campus • Use your ESF credentials to access the Evergreen Wireless Network. It is currently available in: The Gateway Center, Baker Labs, Moon Library, Marshall Hall, Jahn Labs, Bray Hall (fourth floor and basement/first floor rotunda only), Walters Hall, and Illick Hall (ground level main foyer and adjoining rooms and second floor lounge only). • Your SU credentials will allow you to access to AirOrangeX on SU’s campus.

NYS Residency/Non-Disclosure Applies to Domestic (Out-of-State) Students Only • Become a NYS resident if possible. • In-State Tuition Rate/semester: $5,435 • Non-NYS Tuition Rate/semester: $11,105 • Difference of $5,670 • Pick up a residency application from the Business Office, 102 Bray Hall • Per credit it’s $453 vs. $925. • Difference of $472

Change of Address • It is very important to let us know if you have an address change. • All address changes are handled through the Registrar’s office, or by simply signing on the ESF Student Portal • https://wwwinfo.esf.edu/scripts/LoginStudent/logStudentLogin.asp • It is the student’s responsibility to provide updated addresses!

  10. Health Information Health Insurance- All full-time students must have health insurance coverage. If you have your own insurance you must complete an insurance waiver form through the MyESF portal by February 15th. If you do not you will be billed for the full cost of the plan. Health Services/Providers — CMP Crouse Medical Practice (CMP) is ESF's preferred health care provider. ESF and CMP have a health care and pharmacy services agreement, and CMP accepts the ESF student health insurance plan. You are not required to use CMP. You may opt for a different health care provider (there are several within walking distance of campus). http://www.esf.edu/health/

ARKING AT SU/ESF • Regular daily parking available in West Campus-Standart Lot through SU (443-4652)--costs vary depending on funding status • Parking Permit Applications are available through SU’s MySlice student services • Some P22 Lot passes are available for students who are not on funding- check with UPD • No regular ESF “on-campus” parking available for students on weekdays before 5 p.m. or during SU special events • ESF parking limited to after hours and weekends • Must obtain free permit through University Police, 19 Bray Hall, for the limited parking Don’t let this happen to you!

  15. SU Credit Allotment • For graduate students, the accessory instruction allocation will be 15 credit hours at the start of any degree program. • Graduate students enrolled concurrently in the Maxwell School MPA will have no credit hour limits for courses taken toward that degree.

  16. Academic Policies • Continuous Enrollment: Students must register for at least one credit during the fall and spring semesters of every academic year in order to remain eligible for the degree. • Must also be registered in the same semester of degree completion (may mean summer registration) • Full-time enrollment for ESF funded students is 9 credit hours (GA,RPA, fellowships). • Full-time enrollment for unfunded students is 12 credit hours. (self pay or student loans)

Academic Policies continued • Satisfactory Academic Performance: To remain in good standing, graduate students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. • If cumulative GPA falls below the minimum 3.0, students are placed on academic probation or suspension • Most other policies will be discussed within your individual departments

March 19 Last Day to Withdraw (w “W” or “WF”) Fri. April 19 Advance Registration for fall: April 8-May 8 Other Important Dates: Spring Break March 10-17 Last Day of Classes April 30 Pay your bill within 30 days from the time the bill is generated to avoid any late fees. View bill through MyESF—bills are not mailed. Students on funding still need to pay the regular student fees before the deadline to avoid late fees.

  19. Advising and Registering for Classes • On-line registration for classes begins today for new graduate students! • Students register through MySlice portal once your NetID is activated. FERPA Information • FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act • You can give your parents access to your record through MyESF! • Right to view your record • Right to obtain copies of your records • Right to seek to amend those records • Right to file a complaint with Department of Education • See Registrar’s web page for more information

Directory Information • Information We Consider “Directory Information” • Name, address, email address, telephone number, dates of attendance, class, date of birth, previous institutions attended, field of study, awards/honors, degrees conferred. • Preventing Disclosure of Directory Information • Forms available in the Registrar’s Office and on our web site. Be careful because if you submit this form we will not verify graduation for future employers or graduate schools.
